Research among hunter-gatherer peoples suggest that they work less hard, enjoy more free time and are generally happier and better-adjusted than the evidence would suggest concerning early agricultural peoples. Given this fact, why might hunter-gatherer peoples have begun to settle down into the mundune, laborious existence of village farmers?

You have watched part 1 of Guns, Germs and Steel. Several questions came to mind while I was watching. Feel free to answer any of the questions that I pose and respond to your classmates. Be sure to support your answer with evidence from the video or other sources. You must cite your sources. Please review the Discussion Post Rubric. This rubic will be used during the school year.

Questions: Why are there inequalities in the world? Why did the Europeans prosper on such a grand scale and other cultures did not? Why did some societies advance faster than others? Explain Diamonds theory of the "Haves and Have Nots". Do you believe that wheat and barley started civilization? Why are there still hunter gathers in the world? Farming developed in several regions in the world, why didn't those regions develop like Europe? Diamond states that farming created the inequality in the world. Agree? Disagree? Where does animal domestication fit with Diamond's theories?
