{"id":10,"date":"2023-03-29T16:16:42","date_gmt":"2023-03-29T16:16:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mrwaddell.com\/usgovernment\/?page_id=10"},"modified":"2023-08-01T15:59:23","modified_gmt":"2023-08-01T15:59:23","slug":"unit-1","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.mrwaddell.com\/usgovernment\/units\/unit-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Unit 1"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Foundations of American Government<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Preamble to the Constitution is a statement of principles and goals that the Founders thought Americans should live by and live up to&#8230;whether we have done so, and how we might better achieve these goals, are some of the things that I hope you keep in mind as we progress through this course on American government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the early days of the American republic, the only people allowed to participate in \u201cdemocracy\u201d were white, land-owning men over the age of 25 (the actual voting age depended upon the state in which they lived). Therefore, the term \u201cWe the People\u201d has changed significantly in meaning since 1787. \u201cPeople\u201d now includes virtually the entire adult population regardless of race, gender, religion, or other socioeconomic indicators.
